Fajr filmfest to honor late writer, director Kambozia Partovi

The Fajr Film Festival (FFF) in Iran has been set to pay tribute to the late scriptwriter and film director Kambozia Partovi.

The late cinematic figure will be commemorated at the 40th edition of the FFF at Tehran’s Milad Tower.

Screenwriter Jaber Qasemali has been invited to make a speech about Partovi, who was most famous for his writings rather than films.

He was the co-writer of ‘Muhammad: The Messenger of God’, director Majid Majidi’s film about the childhood of the Prophet of Islam.

Partovi’s latest movie ‘Truck’, recounting the story of a Yazidi woman who becomes homeless after the Iraqi ethnic and religious minority is attacked by ISIS forces in the summer of 2014, was premiered at the 36th FFF in 2018.

He also directed the acclaimed drama ‘Transit Café’, which was Iran’s submission to the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Films category in 2007.

Born in 1955, Partovi died on November 24, 2020, due to coronavirus.

Presided over by Masoud Naqqashzadeh, the 40th FFF will take place in Tehran on February 1-11, 2022 in two cultural and competitive sections.

The FFF coincides with the Ten-Day Fajr ceremonies across Iran, marking the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Since its establishment in 1982, the FFF has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran every year.
